Data on Green Jobs by BLS

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is responsible for
developing and implementing the collection of new data on green jobs.

They have issued their final definition of what a "green job" is for the purposes of a new program of collecting data about green jobs and the green economy. See Sept. 21 issue of the Federal Register.

The resulting information will be useful for evaluating policy initiatives and the labor market impact of economic activity related to protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.

African American History at the Library of Congress

The Library of Congress’ American Memory project features digital collections in almost 20 subject areas. One of these is African American History. Within this find African-American Sheet Music, 1850-1920; Slave Narratives, audio interviews from 1932-1975, where former slaves tell their stories; and the Slave Narratives, Federal Writers’ Project, 1936-1938, which contains more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. Protecting Cyberspace

Senate bill 3480 is the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010. The legislation would modernize efforts to safeguard the nation’s cyberspace networks by creating a more robust organizational structure. The framework would enhance public-private partnerships to build preparedness and resiliency, strengthen the security of federal systems and improve awareness of cyberthreats across the country.

A National Center for Cybersecurity and Communications in the Department of Homeland Security would be created, with a Senate-confirmed director to oversee security of the federal government’s computer networks. (Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is the ranking member of the committee.)

For more information see the U.S. Senate's Committee's webpage.
