Scottish Independence

The referendum for Scotland to gain total independence from Great Britain is expected to be held in 2013 or 2014. For information and discussion of this topic from primary sources in Great Britain, consult the following: The British Government's Scotland Office will give London's perspective on Scottish matters. They have produced this page on Scotland's Constitutional Future which includes a consultation paper published earlier this year. There's also the British Parliament's House of Commons Scottish Affairs Committee. For perspectives from Edinburgh, the Scottish Government's website is http://home.scotland.gov.uk/home, with constitutional reform information featured in the lower right corner. Their devolved Parliament website is http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/, and the pro-independence Scottish National Party, which has a majority in this parliament, can be found at http://www.snp.org/. For House of Commons Library information comparable to the U.S. Congressional Research Service reports, see http://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/research/, particularly the Research Briefings.
