The Census is Coming!...What this means for College Students amidst COVID-19 pandemic

The Census is Coming for College Students!

Despite the unusual circumstances of this year, the 2020 Census is still happening and you still count. Census.gov released a press briefing on March 15, 2020 describing how college students should be counted. Below are some highlights:

      ·       College students living on-campus will be counted through the Group Quarters Operation whether they live in traditional dorms, family house, or any other housing owned by the university.

      ·       Students in colleges and universities temporarily closed due to COVID-19 will still be counted as part of this process even though they may be home on Census Day (April 1).  Please ensure you are only counted once and in the town you spend most of the year.

      ·       If you are a student that is temporarily away from school due to the pandemic, you should still be counted as though you were at school.
