This year marks 50 annual celebrations of Earth Day. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has celebrated April 22 as Earth Day since 1970. To learn more about what makes this year special see their news release.
This year Earth Day will undoubtedly look different without tree planting events, forums to talk about issues of clean air and water, and celebrations highlighting the many wonderful features our planet's nature has to offer. The lack of these gatherings is no reason to stop the conversation or to not celebrate. The EPA will be offering ways for all ages to participate in Earth Day 2020 while staying home and away from large gatherings. They are sharing ideas for celebrating through their pages on Facebook and Twitter (including a coloring page to hang in your window or post online). The Environmental Resources page includes resources for classrooms. Join with others via social media using the hashtags #EarthDay2020 #EarthDayatHome #EPAat50 and share how you are celebrating Earth Day in the comments.
